You are welcome to read, link to and share our journalism.

Our stories, photographs, videos, graphics and design belong to us or to those who have licensed them to us and are protected by copyright.

You may quote reasonable extracts where permitted by law, provided you credit Hawke's Bay News and link to the original story where possible.

Unless permitted by law or approved by us in writing, you may not republish our content in full, use it commercially, or scrape or bulk-copy it, including for developing or training artificial-intelligence systems. You must not remove copyright notices or interfere with the operation or security of the website or app. Ordinary search-engine indexing is permitted.

Corrections and complaints

Hawke's Bay News is committed to accurate, fair and independent journalism. If you believe we have made an error or wish to make a formal complaint about our editorial content, email editor@hawkesbaynews.co.nz.

Please include a link to the story, details of your concern and any relevant supporting information. Formal complaints must be clearly marked as such and made within 20 working days of publication.

Hawke's Bay News is a member of the NZ Media Council and subject to its complaints procedure. Complaints about stories must first be directed in writing to us at editor@hawkesbaynews.co.nz within 20 working days of the story being published. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Media Council. You will need to attach a copy of the article you complain about and any correspondence you have had with us.

Material sent to us

If you provide photographs, video or other material for possible publication, you confirm that you are entitled to provide it.

You retain ownership of material you create. Unless we agree otherwise, you give Hawke's Bay News permission to edit, reproduce, publish and archive it across our website, app and social-media channels.

This does not override any confidentiality or off-the-record arrangement expressly agreed with Hawke's Bay News.

We decide what we publish and are not obliged to publish anything sent to us. If information is confidential or particularly sensitive, please contact us before sending it.

Contributions

Contributions to Hawke's Bay News are voluntary, and our written news stays free to read whether or not you contribute.

Payments are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment provider. Your card and payment details are entered with and handled by Stripe, not stored by Hawke's Bay News, and Stripe’s own terms and privacy policy apply to that processing.

Advertising and external content

Advertising and sponsored content will be clearly identified. Advertisers do not control our editorial coverage.

Hawke's Bay News is not responsible for goods, services or claims made by advertisers, or for external websites and content linked to or displayed through our services.

Availability and liability

We aim to keep the website and app available, but do not guarantee that they will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, suspend or remove content or features where appropriate.

To the extent permitted by law, Hawke's Bay News is not responsible for loss arising from your reliance on our content or from the website or app being unavailable.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights under New Zealand law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
