Hawke’s Bay App was established in 2018 as a comprehensive, regionally focused mobile news and information service. It operated until February 2025, providing a dedicated source of local news and information for the region, with journalist Andrew Austin serving as editor for its final two years.

In August 2026, the platform was acquired and relaunched as Hawke’s Bay News ahead of the elections, beginning a new chapter with a renewed focus on quality local journalism.
