Police found a suspect hiding among hundreds of fruit bins after a vehicle fled officers in Napier.
Two people were arrested following the incident, which began about 11.55pm when police signalled for a vehicle to stop on Taradale Road.
Police said the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was quickly abandoned because of the manner of driving.
The vehicle was later seen allegedly speeding south towards Hastings, and road spikes were deployed near Karamu Road.
Police said the vehicle was abandoned and its three occupants fled. One was apprehended immediately, while the other two ran towards a large orchard area.
Police dog units searched for an hour and a half before finding a person hiding among hundreds of fruit bins.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully getting into a vehicle, and a 16-year-old will appear in the Youth Court.
Police are continuing inquiries to identify the third person and have not ruled out further charges.
