An Air New Zealand flight landed safely at Hawke’s Bay Airport after its pilot declared a mayday off the coast of Napier this morning.
Flight NZ5013 was travelling from Auckland to Napier when the crew received an indication relating to the aircraft’s nose wheel steering, Air New Zealand Chief Safety and Risk Officer Nathan McGraw said.
Maritime New Zealand’s Rescue Coordination Centre said the pilot declared a mayday at 9.22am, reporting a front wheel issue.
The aircraft landed safely about 9.59am and the mayday was cancelled. No injuries were reported to the centre.
McGraw said emergency services were on standby for the arrival as a precaution.
“All passengers disembarked as normal, and our engineering team will assess the aircraft before it returns to service.”
